Illumination Systems
The development of illumination systems is a large part of the optical engineering business worldwide. From automotive lighting to backlit displays for laptop PCs, illumination systems are ubiquitous!

FRED has all of the tools necessary for modeling and analyzing illumination systems, including:
Geometry import from lens design and CAD programs
Source models constructed from measured data
Predefined prism models
Diffuser and general scatter modeling
Amplitude, dichroic and polarizing filter models to create color wheels, polarizing elements, etc.
Fast non-sequential raytracing that tracks actual power (watts, lumens, etc.)
Irradiance, intensity, and true color image calculations

With a small outlay of effort, an optical engineer using FRED can quickly and confidently build and analyze any type of illumination system.
