Materials/Gradient Index
Materials/Birefringent Materials
Homogeneous materials may be specified from glass vendor catalogs (conventional and radiation-hardened Schott, Ohara, Hoya, Corning SA, Pilkington, and custom), from tabulated input of refractive indices (real and/or imaginary parts), from nd, vd pair (model glass on normal dispersion glass line) or from a user-defined BASIC dispersion equation.

FRED supports the following gradient index (GRIN) material types:
• Axial-radial (polynomial in axial and radial distances)
• Selfoc™ (polynomial in radial distance from axis)
• General polynomial
• Luneberg
• Maxwell
• Spherical (polynomial in distance from a point)
• Scripted GRIN (user-defined BASIC script)

FRED supports birefringent and/or optically active materials that are sampled as a function of wavelength.
