Multiple Document Interface

Unlike many other optical software, FRED has a multiple document interface like Microsoft Word^™ and Excel^™.

This allows the user to have multiple FRED documents open at once; entities may be copied and pasted from one FRED document to another.

This powerful feature allows the user to develop subsystems as separate FRED documents to be merged at a later time. Users can copy subassemblies, multilayer coating prescriptions, scatter models, refractive media, etc. by simply dragging and dropping between FRED documents. (For example, users can create a FRED “library” document that contains all of the coatings, scatter models, etc. that are commonly used at their company, and then simply pass it around and copy what they need from it.)
