Illumination Engineering Short Course Overview
Photon Engineering’s illumination engineering short course is an intensive 3-day instruction on the modeling, design, and concepts involved in the field of illumination.  Additional advanced topics such as optimization and tolerancing can be added in a fourth day for an extra fee if there is enough demand.

Prerequisites
Attendees should have a rudimentary knowledge of optical design and radiometry. No knowledge of illumination topics is assumed; the course starts with very basic radiometric, source, and design concepts and develops the relevant language, theory and techniques.

This short course is not taught with a particular software package in mind; the techniques and discussion topics are generic to the field of illumination.  Consequently engineers using any of the commercial illumination software packages will benefit from attending this short course.  Note that this course makes predominant use of Photon Engineering's FRED software.

Instructor:
The instructor is Dr. R. John Koshel, vice-president of consulting engineering at Photon Engineering.  Dr. Koshel has over 20 years experience in the broad and growing field of illumination engineering, including experimental, modeling, and theory.  He has worked on many illumination projects including those incorporating solid-state lighting, solar concentrators, lightpipes, luminaires, laser pumping, and optimization and tolerancing.  He has direct experience working with virtually all commercial (and several proprietary) illumination modeling software. The material presented during the course reflects his very broad knowledge of the field.

• Attendance at each short course is limited to 16 participants.
• Hotel accommodations and meal expenses are not included in cost of the short course.  You are responsible for those arrangements, but upon request we can help with suggestions.
• Depending on projected attendance, we reserve the right to reschedule or cancel a short course up to two weeks prior to the short course.
